Part of a collection of letters, many of which were written by Ruskin's grandmother to his mother and father, or by John James Ruskin, James Tweddale, and other members of the family to one another. Collection also includes the indenture of Ruskin's grandfather (MA 7791.1, dated 1776), and a pedigree of the Ruskin family compiled by W. G. Collingwood.. Place of writing from Sydney postmark.
The letter is dated August 29, 1831 but the London postmarks are Feb. 21, 1832; an undated postmark indicates that the letter came by ship from Sydney, Australia.
