John James Ruskin was heading to Perth when he was forced to stop at Ferry Bridge in Yorkshire due to an onset of typhus fever.
Part of a collection of letters, many of which were written by Ruskin's grandmother to his mother and father, or by John James Ruskin, James Tweddale, and other members of the family to one another. Collection also includes the indenture of Ruskin's grandfather (MA 7791.1, dated 1776), and a pedigree of the Ruskin family compiled by W. G. Collingwood.. Expressing her concern for his ill health; informing him that Margaret is on her way and that she would have accompanied her but his father is waiting for him at Newcastle and she wants to be at home when he returns; adding that the "only relief I can find is in the prospect of Margt [sic] being with you since I am deprived of that comfort myself it is the only plan that can give me peace."
