Summary
Noting that he had seen in the newspaper that "a few friends of Mr. Ruskin's had bought "The Pass of Splungen" picture to present to him and inviting anyone who wished to join in the presentation to apply to you or Mr. Cowper Temple; saying he would very much like to contribute to this gift but "can only afford a very small subscription; I should feel very much gratified if I might be allowed to contribute my mite;" reporting that his patient is much better and is getting outdoors every day "knowing how essential outdoor exercise and distraction of mind, especially with natural objects (which he admires so much) are for him. He eats well but cannot sleep without the chloral."
