Thanking him for his letter that gave him so much pleasure and comfort; thanking him for understanding him so well; saying that "I have no other such friend except Edward Jones--but I ought to thank you more than him because I really have at one time of this life been somewhat of a good to him in what I used to write--but I never can understand having been of any good to you;" adding a postscript thanking Boo for her letter but saying he cannot answer it as "I've no play in me just now."
