Summary
Saying that the drawing arrived safely and apologizing for not having let her know immediately; saying that his work depends on a "steady tone" and that writing or sending a telegram "may often spoil a good hours work for me;" saying that she should not worry about little things as "the world is perhaps coming into conflagration. It will burn up a drawing or two for us, anyhow;" telling her that "Granite's working on false principles altogether; trying to do much before he can do a little. He will have to work in a wholly different way. Pencil point and nothing else and draw small and only from reality."
