Summary
Giving her lengthy and specific criticism on her drawing of "red leaves" and comparing her attempt to draw them to a music student who has only taken a few lessons attempting to play a principal part in a Mozart quartet; saying that "I don't say you won't learn to paint by going on in this way, only don't expect me to say it is well till it is;" comparing her ability to several ladies who are also studying painting; talking specifically about the importance of working with light and shade in her exercises before she practices with color.
