Summary
Apologizing for not corresponding with her; saying that he felt he could not "be of further use to you; we were both of us ill (and I am irritable even when I am well) and two sick people can do each other no good;" saying he will continue to take an interest in her but if she should "hear anything of me it will be only that I visit no one which I hope my friends will hold--as I do--my loss more than theirs."
