Summary
Saying "I am doing nothing myself--being for the present stranded after twenty years work--in deliberation what to do next. Whether to take up Natural History--or go on with Art; or with Literature. (Namely shall I paint--or write--or do neither--the remainder of my days.) Or shall I take up politics--or shall I take up nothing but amuse myself if I can? tremendous questions all--which can't be solved by trying to solve them;" saying that his mother is improving very slowly; talking of all that is growing in his flower garden and saying that "the birds are beginning to sing, but I'm sure I don't know what for;" saying he is going to town to meet with Thomas Richmond "who is making a portrait of me."
