Summary
Saying he would like to visit her on Wednesday, but that he needs to visit someone whom he won't hurt and who won't hurt him; saying "I want someone to be kind to me without making me think--or feel--both which processes weary me--I want somebody to pet me--read to me--amuse me--never puzzle me, nor make me sorrowful;" saying "If I could be invisible to see children playing without being in their way--hear women talking without having to talk--get rest and jest--without people's thinking me selfish--or requiring me to laugh--be selfish in fact--without anybody's knowing it;" saying "I don't think you'll do. You would be always making me ashamed of myself--or sorrowful for you--or asking troublesome questions. I don't think you'll do at all--but I'll come on Wednesday."
