Saying that he received her letter during his return to Abbotsford from a three-week journey, noting that he spent a week with the Duke of Buccleuch, a few days with Morritt, and had breakfast one day with the Bishop of Durham; mentioning that he has had several visitors since his return and has just come up to visit Lord and Lady Melville for a few days; rejoicing to hear she is in good health and assuring her that "time the slow but sure comforter must be the physician for other sorrows;" discussing his sons.
