Discussing his The Lady of the Lake, noting that the initial quarto edition of 2000 copies "has not lasted a fortnight" and that a smaller edition has been published; promising to send her a copy, as it contains some corrections; intending to visit the Hebrides when the Session of Courts is closed; mentioning Lord Hamilton's improved health; regretting that Lady Castlereigh (later Marchioness of Londonderry) will not send him copies of the letters written from Jonathan Swift to her ancestress Mrs. Howard, hoping that she will publish them so he may have access to their content; expecting Lord Melville to arrive in Edinburgh shortly; discussing his financial affairs and Sir Francis Burdett's "extravagancies."
