Summary
Etching shows a sign reading "Dr. Birch's Establishment", below which a man, identified as "Dr. B.", flogs a boy (identified as "The Naughty Boy"), whose arms are held by "John the Footman"; below these three central figures are two boys, identified as "The boys who go up next", while at top are two seated figures, "The boys of the upper form." The buttocks of the flogged boy and the faces of the six other figures are variously represented by pink hand tinted hearts.
