Summary
Informing her that his brother (Tom?) has absconded with the rents of the Duddingstone estate in order to "make up the money belonging to another client;" assuring her at length that Scott will be able to reimburse the Marquis for his brother's theft; referencing his application to Lord Melville to be appointed Clerke of Session, and asking her to further his cause so that he may one day save something for his children; further discussing his need for the appointment and describing his shock at learning of his brother's actions, noting "My own mortification has been so great that I was very feverish for three days & if I had leisure would have been most heartily sick with vexation anxiety & grief."
