This letter was evidently forwarded to an unknown recipient, possibly by Watts; a note on Ruskin's envelope reads: "I send you Bowman's letter and one from Ruskin. Please do not lose them as they are both interesting." The Bowman letter mentioned in this note is a letter from Bowman to Watts dated Nov. 17, 1863 (MA 3881.43).
