Concerning Madame de la Rue's condition and his mesmerism of her; expressing confidence that the next time he mesmerizes her, "I shall find the power of the Agency which has, God be thanked!, done her so much good -- greatly increased and intensified;" discussing her encounters with the "Shadow of the Bad Shadow" and the "moral influence gained over the Shadows;" consoling de la Rue for his inability to mesmerize his wife and saying that they should be grateful that she can be affected by somebody; describing the "intensity of my desire to do her good;" discussing mutual acquaintances, mentioning Miss Holdcamp, Forster, Maclise, and Jerrold; inviting him to England, and briefly recalling their time together in Italy.
