Regretting to hear that Fortescue's ill health has taken him to Bath "at this unpleasant Season;" encouraging him to form an acquaintance with Mr. Allen there; discussing how terrible the journey to Bath is, noting "I really believe the Alps are more passable than from thence to Exeter;" discussing the trajectory of his life, noting "what Ribans, what Titles, what Furs, yea what Coifs, did I ever wear, or attempt to wear? Mine are poor Vanities, a few of the worst sort of Laurels."
