Summary
Telling him that he waited on "my Lord Cheif [sic] Justice Holt who told me you were not one of the three down upon the list last year and promised me you should not be put in the list this"; pointing out that "it sometimes happens ... that a sherif is named by the King who is not one of the three upon the list"; noting that he gave as Lyde's reason for not wanting to be sheriff that his "estate is small and familie great"; sending Lyde an account of his affairs with tenants at Belton, Pensford, and Publoe (this enclosure is now held by the British Library).
