Notes
Koenig supposedly obtained a copy of the Leibniz letter from Samuel Henzi (or Henzy), who was beheaded in 1749. Schumann notes that Maupertuis did not trust Koenig and independently ordered a search through the Henzi papers, and reports that no Leibniz letter was found. It was around this time that Koenig's copy of the Leibniz letter was also being investigated by Leonhard Euler.
