Mentioning that she "sometimes sit[s] quite still in the boat & watch[es] the water hens," and describing the wildlife, noting that the lapwings sleep while standing on one leg. Mentioning a local farmer, noting that he "has a beautiful fat pig." Illustrated with sketches of Potter in a rowboat on Esthwaite Water, water hens, lapwings, and other birds, as well as a fox carrying off a bird and a farm scene with a fat pig.
