Noting that Gullman is "wise not to go to India during the plague-season," and discussing his upcoming trip to Australia and New Zealand. Discussing the book buing proclivities (specifically mentioning dictionary buying) of the Australians, New Zealanders, and English, noting that "occasionally the English buy books out of all reason: then again, they decline even to look at a good book for years at a time. The most crotchety public in the world." Noting that he "can feel their crotchets a little," but that they bought "a good many" copies of his Kokoro. Mentioning Professor Foxwell.
