Praising Gullman's ability to work in Beijing "with the recent affairs there." Mentioning Professor [Ernest] Foxwell. Discussing his soon to be published "Exotics and Retrospectives," and referencing work on another manuscript, which he hopes to complete by January. Discussing the Chinese University, stating that "there must be some big educational reform in China, forced by foreign authority," and mentioning that a new Chinese professor at the Imperial University of Tokyo "dresses most gorgeously in azure silk." Noting that Alexander Bell and the poet T. B. Aldrich are visiting Japan, and discussing his indebtedness to Gullman for 32 sen (related to Hearn's purchase of Stetson hats). Enclosing more Japanese labels printed with Hearn's Tokyo address.
