Summary
Apologizing to him for not thanking him sooner for the two letters he sent; explaining that she has been busy since returning from the East; saying that she wishes she could have gone to Rome upon her return to France, but that she decided not to so that her visit to the Pope [Pius IX] would not be misinterpreted; sending him her best wishes for the New Year.
