Telling the Marquis d'Argens that he must take leave of him; expressing his hope that an agreement between France and England will shorten his own military campaign; instructing the Marquis d'Argens to write to him of nothing but literature if he is worried that his letter may be intercepted; mentioning his brother's arrival; reporting that he does nothing but study his country and his books.
