Alluding to his many problems and reaffirming his resolve to remain stoic "in these disastrous times"; noting that his country will face "decisive events" next month; comparing his country's situation to that of Rome at the time of Marius, Sulla, and the Triumvirate; reporting that his health is holding up under these difficult circumstances, but he does not know how; observing that philosophy can help with past or future maladies but does little to solve current problems.
