Summary
Saying he is irritated with her for always assuming other pleasures prevent him from seeing her; telling her that in time he will explain his retreat and the enigma which he did not want to recount in writing; asking her to consider whether it is reasonable for him to sympathize with her given his own troubled situation; sensing he won't be able to carry on with their relationship much longer because it causes him too much bitterness and grief; bemoaning the loss of his freedom; lamenting what has become of their relationship; resolving to become insensitive to her reproaches and to focus solely on his love for her.
