Written from Dumfries. With address panel excised but repaired with similar paper stock, and with seal and postmarks (Dumfries and DE 3). Docketed "1st Dec. 1792 Mr. Burns agreeing to the alterations prop[ose]d on sev[eral] Songs - w[ith] an add[itional] verse to The Lea rigg."
Summary
Agreeing to alterations of his song to the tune of "My Nanie, O" and "My wife's a wanton wee thing" (i.e., "My wife's a winsome wee thing"). Disagreeing with edits to "O saw ye bonie Lesley," but noting "it is immaterial: make it either way." Giving the complete text of "The Lea-rigg." Noting that he has been interrupted and asking the recipient to "transmit the inclosed by a careful hand."
