Summary
Describing a "charming" Tuesday night spent at Johnson and at Horne's, mentioning that "Oscar [Wilde] was on show and was quite charming, & in very good form," and that Shannon ("the prototype of the artist in 'Dorian'") was also present and in good form. Noting that the week "has been very full of delightful things: and damnable ones," noting that Bacon (probably a money lender) has called in Dowson's debts totaling £22.14.6. Relating that "set off against these various ennuis complicated by neuralgia & heads" Dowson has been occupied by visits from Moore and Oscar Wilde, and in reading a story by Lionel Johnson (which Johnson sent to Dowson "to peruse before he dispatches it anywhither"). Praising Johnson's story as "a thing quite perfect" that "Maupassant & James might have collaborated on & been proud of." Describing his afternoon spent at Poland the day before, where Missy (Adelaide Foltinowicz) and "a small French boy" played duets on violins. Hoping to see Moore soon and lamenting his financial situation.
