Written from "Eggell," and dated the xiij day of Maij 1567. The Earl of Morton was probably writing from the family seat of the Lairds of Eggell, whose lands were "at the head of the Mearns," modern Kincardineshire, Scotland. (cf. History of Scotland, Its Highlands, Regiments and Clans by Browne Jamesin, reprinted 2009, p. 225).
