Summary
Saying that his object in coming to see Forster "is to be beguiled for a little into forgetfulness" [following the death of his daughter Edith]; telling him that Lady Tennent is externally "calm and tranquil" but heart-broken; noting that his daughter died "suffering but uncomplaining"; commenting on two "pleasant letters" he received from Lord Stanley and Lord Derby that praise his administration of the colony in Ceylon.
