Summary
Acknowledging receipt of Macready's cheque, noting that Dickens will "hand it over forthwith to the Honorary Secretary of the Hospital," and discussing charity. Humorously describing a visit to the theatre to hear a play by Marston, mentioning that at the end of the night, when he brought Wilkie Collins home to "refresh himself with a Cigar," Dickens fell into his chair "with such a sudden relief from the oppression of bottling off a cask of absurdity through three long hours, that [he] laughed [him]self into hysterics."
