Apologizing for not writing sooner, and explaining that he has been spending so much time answering business correspondence that "pleasure-correspondence is just the last thing in the world [he has] had leisure to take to"; saying how sorry he was to leave Peterborough; mentioning a visit to Rockingham Castle; describing his breakfast of a "petrified bun of enormous antiquity"; complaining about the mud at this time of year; asking who taught her to write because he wants to improve his handwriting.
