Reporting that the term ends in three weeks and he is eager to see the family; expressing his hope that their mother's health continues to improve; noting that he tried writing poetry but immediately burned his efforts; telling her he has "scarcely any money" and wants "15 dollars sent [him] in about a fortnight."
