Part of a collection of 52 letters from Charles Allston Collins to his mother, Harriet Collins. Items in the collection are described in individual records (MA 3153.1-52).
The letter is dated "Friday."
This letter was probably written between 1851, when Wilkie Collins met Charles Dickens, and 1860, when Charles Allston Collins married Kate Dickens. Charles refers to receiving a letter from Miss Hogarth, who lived with the Dickens family, but he does not mention Kate.
Summary
Telling her the journey was "comfortably accomplished"; noting that the "party is a very gay one" and he is "sure it would be the best thing in the world for Wilkie [Collins] to be here"; mentioning that Wilkie forwarded him a letter from Miss [Georgina] Hogarth.
