Summary: 

Telling her they have arrived in Paris safely, and that the last part of their journey was "accomplished by railway"; explaining that he had to sell their horse because of her "symptoms of lameness"; noting that he may postpone the journey through France until next summer and look for a suitable horse during the winter; expressing their disappointment that the journey was cut short; saying the missing portmanteau has been recovered.
