Summary
Collection consists of autograph letters from Alexander Pope to William Fortescue (19), Charles Ford (4, two of which were co-written with Thomas Parnell), Benjamin Motte (5), the artist Jonathan Richardson the Elder (3), George Arbuthnot (2), and John Brinsden, as well as an autograph ex libris, an autograph poem ("Receipt to make a soupe by Mr. Pope to Dean Swift"), a receipt signed by Pope, and the original agreement between Pope, Swift and the publisher Benjamin Motte for the publication of their Miscellanies. Collection also contains a letter from John Sheffield, Duke of Buckingham to Pope and a letter from William Warburton to an unidentified recipient, as well as a poem formerly attributed to Pope. Letters from Pope are concerned with his health, travels, and publication matters; most are written from unspecified locations, but some were written from Twickenham.
