Incorporated into the text of the autograph manuscript of Life on the Mississippi by Samuel Longhorne Clemens. MA 679 consists of chapters 48-60, plus Appendix and Appendix A; written on the rectos and some versos of 409 pages, paginated by Clemens 749-774, 1-115, 1-8, 20-69, 1-14, 139-163, 1-25, 1-146. The present letter is paginated 38-40 in the second series of pagination.
