Complaining of some tedious editing work and noting his "painful reflection" that time spent on this task detracts from "the small remainder of Time that might have been devoted to the completion of my own Works"; reflecting that his remaining works will probably be published posthumously because booksellers "are shy of risking so great an expence [sic]" on works that may prove unsaleable; reiterating Charles Lamb's assertion that he [Coleridge] is "one of Fortune's Ne'er-do-wells," disliked by the critical journals of the day; stating that he has "not a single sparkle of the Love of literary reputation for it's [sic] own sake," but still he "cannot help feeling [his] friendlessness in the Literary Republic hard"; discussing his recent reading, including two volumes of [Philip] Skelton and [John] Davison's Discourses on prophecy; inviting Edward to visit him in London.
