Summary:

Apologizing for not writing her usual Sunday letter, and mentioning that the grandson of her maid, Edwidge, will be exempt from conscription "in virtue of a law about a widow's eldest grandson, and that the young man has an invalid father." Mentioning the Alexander's recent visit to Venice (the first in two years), noting that they "saw many old friends there, among them Sig. Boni [whose] life was saved by a very wonderful providence," and further describing a "terrible land-slide or rock-slide, at Sasso" that buried the railroad track, noting that Boni's train would have been buried in this landslide had the train not been "exactly half a minute in retard."
