Concerning the health of Alexander's "Fratello," John Ruskin, noting that his "recovery always come[s] to him in this way, by being his old self, at first, by intervals," and that "his mind is not even partly gone, but only clouded." Mentioning that "two old friends from America, ... one of [whom] is an invalid," have come to Italy "principally to see tha Mammina," Lucia Gray Swett Alexander, and are taking up all of Alexander's time. Also describing the terrace garden, thanking Severn for sending seeds, and noting that Alexander has come across a letter from Ruskin written nearly three years ago (i.e. 1888) wherein he indicates "almost as if he intended making some permanent provision" for Sig. Caroforti and his wife.
