Summary
Giving a brief account of a sudden, severe illness suffered by Alexander's "Mammina," Lucia Gray Swett Alexander, and describing the surgery that ensued to remove a "large watery tumor" that otherwise "would certainly kill her in five or six months." Noting that she was treated by Dr. Coldstream and Dr. Lawson Tait, who "said there were three chances to one that she would not survive the operation," but that she is now "safe" and "under the influence of morphine." Apologizing for not writing her usual Christmas letter to her "Fratello," John Ruskin.
