Notes
Alexander's receipt of poppy seeds from Severn is discussed in a letter (MA 7362.58) dated 14 November 1889, in which Alexander mentions that she will plant some on her terrace in Florence, and will send the remainder to be planted across Italy. She also expresses pleasure at "introducing a new and beautiful flower into Italy," and hopes that half the seeds may ripen by "next summer," i.e., 1890.
Part of a large collection of letters primarily from Francesca Alexander to Joan Severn. Items in this collection are described in individual records.
Signed "Your affectionate Sorella Francesca."
Written on stationery with "Francesca" elaborately embossed in gilt.
Summary
Discussing an expected shipment of plants from Severn (and Ruskin?). Also concerning the improving health of Alexander's "Fratello," John Ruskin, and discussing Mr. Severn's "contradiction of those hateful stories." Noting that Alexander expects the "poppies to be up every day."
