Notes
Alexander's receipt of poppy seeds from Severn is discussed in a letter (MA 7362.58) dated 14 November 1889, in which Alexander mentions that she will plant some on her terrace in Florence, and will send the remainder to be planted across Italy. In a letter (MA 7362.68) dated 17 March 1890 Alexander mentions that she is "expecting the poppies to be up every day;" in a letter (MA 7362.70) dated 28 March 1890, Alexander notes that "the yellow poppies are sending up so many new leaves from the roots;" and in a letter (MA 7362.73) dated 18 April 1890 Alexander notes that the poppies "have three buds now."
