Telling him that he sees no chance of finishing Sophie and Bruno concluded before Easter; explaining that he was "rather seriously ill" at the beginning of the year; asking whether the drawings for the book can be finished by the end of January; reflecting that he doesn't think he has "any right to reckon much on the coming years, and there is a great lot of work [he wants] to finish before the end comes."
