Telling him that it was his suggestion that Burns should send his verses to a magazine that first "encouraged [Burns] to endeavour at the character of a Poet"; mentioning that as soon as a "bruised limb will permit" he intends to return to Ayrshire and see Brown; describing a "young Edinr. widow [Agnes M'Lehose] who has wit and beauty ... murderously fatal" for whom he is "ready to hang [him]self"; transcribing the verses she recently sent him.
