Summary
Concerning some missing volumes that the correspondent had inquired about; suggesting that Mayer might have put the volumes in the Reference Department of his Free Library in Bebington; explaining that the arrangement of books was subject to Mayer's "fancy", but that a complete list of the library's contents was prepared after his death; suggesting that the correspondent write to the librarian: "[T]his will give certainty though it may not do more. If they are in the Library they are now in the possession of trustees and of course I cannot say what view they would take with regard to restoring them"; cautioning against any hopes for a positive resolution of the matter, with the further explanation that "Mr Mayer altered, transferred, and cut up...".
