The date is based on Austen's date, "Tuesday morning," and the note about the date on the address panel. Aug. 18 was not a Tuesday in 1814; Aug. 16 and Aug. 23 are the two possible Tuesdays that are close to Aug. 18.
The first page and a half are written "Tuesday morning"; "Wednesday morning" appears in the middle of p. 2
