Notes
At the death of their father Johann Friedrich I in 1554, Johann Friedrich II, Johann Wilhelm and Johann Friedrich III inherited the duchy of Saxony, which they divided among themselves, each ruling as a Duke of Saxony. Between 1554-1556, Johann Friedrich II briefly recovered the title Elector of Saxony, and this letter was probably written to him.
