One of a group of 22 surviving letters from Van Gogh to Bernard from December 1887-November 1889, 19 of which are in the Morgan's collection (MA 6441).
Illustrated with several sketches: Sower with setting sun (14.5 x 11.4 cm, 5 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches), Wheat field with setting sun (16.2 x 10.8 cm, 6 3/8 x 4 1/4 inches), Leg of an easel with a ground spike (5.5 x 3.2 cm, 2 1/8 x 1 1/4 inches).
