One of a group of 22 surviving letters from Van Gogh to Bernard from December 1887-November 1889, 19 of which are in the Morgan's collection (MA 6441).
Illustrated with several sketches: Cabane in Saintes-Maries (6 x 2.5 cm, 2 3/8 x 1 inch), Woman with a parasol (8.5 x 7.3 cm, 3 3/8 x 2 7/8 inches), Street in Saintes-Maries (17.9 x 14.2 cm, 7 x 5 5/8 inches), Fishing boats at sea (13.2 x 9.5 cm, 5 1/4 x 3 3/4 inches), Landscape with the edge of a road (4.3 x 6.5 cm, 1 3/4 x 2 1/2 inches), Farm along a road (4.3 x 2.5 cm, 1 3/4 x 1 inch), Fishing boats on the beach (17.8 x 9 cm, 7 x 3 1/2 inches), and Still life with coffeepot (17.8 x 9 cm, 7 x 3 1/2 inches).
