Summary
Saying "Many thanks for your letter. I should like to do something for your Xmas number; but the fact is I couldn't write a column of The People in verse if I tried. My ambition is to save space - not to fill it; & the shorter I write the better I am pleased. A sequence of short poems - a cycle of songs - might do; but for such a work I've neither ideas nor time."
